How it all started

Montenegrin America began with a chance meeting at Arizona State University. Ljubomir (Ljubo) Filipović was completing his PhD at the School of Politics and Global Studies, while Bojana Dabović Đokđurđić was a Humphrey Fellow at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. As they got to know each other, they discovered how many stories about Montenegrins in Arizona remained untold — and decided to do something about it. Bojana’s background in television and multimedia production shaped the project from the very beginning, and it was that expertise that gave rise to the first episode of Montenegrin America. The project was first supported by the ASU Melikian Center, and later by the “Montenegrin family from Berlin” a well-known Montenegrin-German philantropists, whose generosity helped make Montenegrin America possible
