Babe Martin, born Boris Martinovich in 1920 in St. Louis, Missouri, was the son of Montenegrin immigrants from Bajice near Cetinje. His life reflects a classic American story of second-generation achievement — rising from a working-class immigrant family to play professional baseball in Major League Baseball (MLB).
Martin played for the St. Louis Browns and the legendary Boston Red Sox, making him one of the few Americans of Montenegrin heritage to leave a mark at the top level of American sports.
